could care less vs. couldn’t care less

When a person says, “I could care less,” they usually mean to say, “I couldn’t care less,”—or, more exactly, “I don’t care.”

In the following example, could care less contradicts the writer’s argument that liberals do not care about helping people:

They could care less about helping people.

Technically, this says that liberals actually do care about helping people.
